THE RIGHT APPROACH FOR YOUR HOME

A smart upgrade starts
with a clear picture.

Panel replacement, service-capacity upgrades and new circuits solve different problems. We explain which work is relevant to your home so you understand both the recommendation and the scope before moving forward.

  • Adding an EV charger or another substantial electrical load.
  • Planning a remodel or changes to the way the home is used.
  • Concerned about the condition of aging service equipment.
  • Experiencing repeated trips that need proper diagnosis.

UNDERSTAND YOUR OPTIONS

A new panel and more capacity are different.

Panel replacement

A panel project addresses the distribution equipment and its condition. Replacing the panel does not, by itself, mean the incoming electrical service has more capacity.

Service upgrade

A service upgrade addresses the home’s electrical supply when the planned demand calls for it. We assess the existing service and proposed loads before recommending the scope.

HELPFUL DETAILS BEFORE YOU DECIDE

The right change starts with the right assessment.

A new appliance, an older panel and a lack of convenient outlets are different problems. The proposed work should explain which problem it solves and why that approach fits your home.

Replacing the panel

Panel condition, compatibility and the proposed work may make replacement appropriate. Ask what existing concerns were found and which components are included in the quote. Replacing the enclosure and breakers does not by itself mean the utility service capacity has increased.

Adding circuits or distribution

A dedicated circuit or suitable additional distribution can address some project needs when the existing system supports it. Discuss equipment requirements and wiring routes along with available capacity. A smaller scope may be appropriate, but that conclusion needs an assessment rather than a guess.

Upgrading the service

When additional service capacity is needed, the project can involve more than the interior panel. Ask about meter equipment, utility coordination, applicable permits and inspection, the expected power interruption and any work by other trades. Include future equipment in the initial discussion.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Your electrical panel.
Understand the options.

Practical answers about planning, equipment and what to expect.

Ask us a question ↗
How do I know whether my electrical panel needs attention?

Recurring trips, visible damage, unusual heat or noise, and plans for significant new electrical loads are reasons to arrange an assessment. Age alone does not determine the correct solution. Describe the symptoms and planned equipment, and let an electrician evaluate the panel’s condition and capacity. Leave the panel cover in place.

Is a panel replacement the same as an electrical service upgrade?

No. Replacing a panel changes the distribution equipment; increasing service capacity can involve additional equipment, conductors and utility coordination. A new panel does not automatically increase the available supply. The assessment should establish what the project actually requires. Compare a panel replacement and service upgrade.

Will adding a subpanel give my property more power?

A subpanel can provide circuit space or distribute power closer to an area such as a garage. It does not by itself increase the capacity of the electrical service feeding it. Existing demand, the proposed loads and the supply to the subpanel need to be evaluated before choosing that approach.

Can one faulty breaker be repaired without replacing the panel?

A problem may be limited to a breaker or circuit, but repeated tripping can also indicate an overload, wiring fault or equipment issue. The cause must be diagnosed before deciding what to replace. We discuss findings and options rather than assuming a larger breaker or a complete new panel is the answer.

What determines the cost of a panel or service upgrade?

The scope may include the panel, breakers, service equipment, wiring, grounding and bonding, permits or utility work. Equipment condition, capacity requirements and location also matter. We assess the existing installation and planned loads so the quote distinguishes necessary work from optional improvements and identifies any coordination required.

How long will the power be off during the work?

The interruption depends on the scope and any inspection or utility requirements. We discuss the expected outage and scheduling dependencies before work is approved. Tell us about medical equipment, refrigeration, security systems or business operations that need special planning. A specific restoration time should not be assumed before the project is assessed.

Should I plan for an EV charger, hot tub or future equipment now?

Yes—share planned additions even if they will be installed later. Their electrical requirements help inform the load assessment, circuit layout and future options. Planning ahead does not always mean installing the largest available service; it means understanding what the property needs before selecting equipment and approving the scope.

Are permits and utility coordination part of every panel project?

The requirements depend on the work and the jurisdiction. A service-capacity change can involve the utility as well as permitting and inspection; other work may have a different process. Confirm what is required, who is responsible and how it affects scheduling when reviewing the proposal, before making plans around the outage.
